Lambert & Butler, the UK's leading cigarette brand, is produced by Imperial Tobacco. It is available only in King Size and Superking Size, and comes in several different types: Regular; Gold (light); White (ultra light); Menthol; Blue.
In 2005, Imperial Tobacco launched the special edition Celebration Pack, in which the design of the packet was changed.
Lambert and Butler is available in packs of 100, 200, etc., and even in the 3000 pack, which contains 150 packs of 20.Objection to a poster, for Lambert and Butler cigarettes, that showed the Lambert character holding a picnic basket and the Butler character holding a pack of the advertised cigarettes. A speech bubble from Lambert's mouth stated "Let's have a picnic, Butler"; a speech bubble from Butler's mouth stated "I'll bring twenty friends, Sir". The complainant objected that the poster implied: 1. cigarettes were friends; and 2. cigarettes would attract friends, suggesting that smoking increased popularity.Complaint upheld
The advertisers said the advertisement was one of a series, that had run for many years, featuring dialogue between the two fictional characters, Lambert and Butler. They argued that the advertisement showed Lambert as having no friends other than his elderly butler and rather than suggesting social success it depicted the opposite: the two characters were about to have a picnic on their own. |
